Gordon Dean Smith (American, 1897-1976) 

This gouache (possibly oil) on heavy paper autumn landscape painting measures 6" x 6" or in the gold wood frame dimensions 15" x 15", signed and dated lower left, Gordon Dean Smith 1925. 

Biography: 
Gordon Dean Smith was active and lived in Illinois and Scotland. Gordon Smith is known for his portrait, still life, marine, genre and landscape paintings. 

Gordon Dean Smith was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on November 10th, 1897 and actively painted for over 50 years. He died in New York City in 1976. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and Chicago Academy of Fine Arts as well as with Andre' L'Hote in Paris, and Russell Flint in London. 

Smith's works have been exhibited in the National Gallery of Scotland and the Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh; Royal Academy, London; Salon des Independants, Paris; National Academy, New York; Art Institute, Chicago; and in private galleries in New York, Chicago, and St. Louis. One man shows were held in London, New York, Chicago, and St. Louis.
