This fox hunting watercolor on paper depicting horses, riders and hounds measures 18-1/2" x 13-1/2" or in the stained vintage wood frame dimensions of 20" x 16" is signed lower right P. Pausinger Erggelet and titled verso 'Huntsman and Dogs'. Apart from some toning and faint foxing the watercolor is in good condition with vibrant colors and is a quintessential example of the artist's work.
Biography:
Baroness Helene Paula Von Pausinger Erggelet was the daughter of Franz Xaver Von Pausinger (1839-1915) a celebrated artist known and highly sought after for his paintings of Austrian and German forest landscapes. Her father was also the traveling companion to the Archducke Rudolph, the crown prince of Austria, from 1858-1889. Paula Pausinger Erggelet traveled and lived in both the United States and Austria during the early part of the 20th Century, sharing time between her residences in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Salzburg, Austria. Pausinger Eregglelet was primarily a landscape painter but became well known for her scenic woodland and mountain views both vibrant and engaging. Her hunting scenes and landscapes was a classic theme following in her fathers tradition.
