Muriel Pettit Gernand (American, 1902-1955)
This beautiful floral still life oil painting measures 25″ x 30″ or in the period gold frame dimension of 31" x 36" is signed lower left M. Gernand and also has an old Newman Galleries Label with their Philadelphia, Pennsylvania address affixed to the frame verso. The painting is in good over all condition with beautiful colors and fine detail. There is a minor repair in the right side middle as can be seen in the verso view, but nothing that detracts or can be noticed from the front when viewing the painting.
Biography:
Muriel Gernand was born in Prospect Park, Pennsylvania in 1902.
She graduated from the Philadelphia School of Design for Women (now the Moore College of Art). She also studied at the National Academy of Design in New York and at the Tiffany Foundation on Long Island.
Her exquisite floral arrangements established her reputation as a highly effective and creative artist.
She exhibited throughout the United States including an exhibition at Newman Galleries in Philadelphia, Pa. She also exhibited at the Veerhoff Galleries in Washington, D.C.
In 1955, Gernand died in Daytona Beach, Florida.
