PAUL MARCEL BALMIGERE (FRENCH, 1882-1953)
This Paris cityscape oil on canvas painting titled Marché des Bouquinistes (booksellers market) is a street view of the busy book market with a cathedral and city buildings in the background. This circa 1940's painting measures 10-3/4” x 13-3/4” or in the ornate hand carved wooden/gesso period frame dimensions of 18-1/4” x 21-1/4” signed lower left, P. Balmigere. The painting is in good condition with no visible defects or anything else that detracts from painting when viewing.
Biography:
Born in Candies, France in 1882, Paul Marcel Balmigere is known primarily for his landscape and cityscape paintings. He was a pupil of Francois Flameng and Adolphe Déchenaud. Balmigere exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants in Paris from 1927-1938 and at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1927-1939, receiving an honorable mention in 1930, a silver medal in 1935 and the prize awarded by the Société des Paysagistes Français (Society of French Landscape Artists) in 1938.
